Why is my page not ranking?

Start with indexing

Before anything else, confirm the page is actually indexed, because an unindexed page cannot rank at all. Search for your exact URL or a unique sentence from the page; if it does not appear, the issue is discovery or indexing, not ranking.

Common causes are blocked crawling, a noindex tag, no internal links pointing to the page, or a very new page that has not been crawled yet.

Check intent and difficulty

If the page is indexed but ranks poorly, the usual culprits are intent mismatch and a keyword that is too hard. A page that answers a different question than searchers want will not rank, and a term above your site's authority will stay out of reach.

Compare your page type to what ranks, as explained in search intent and rankings, and reconsider the target if it is too competitive.

Then look at content and links

Once indexing, intent, and difficulty check out, weak content and missing links are the next suspects. If the page is thinner or less complete than the current top results, or has no internal and external links, it lacks the substance and authority to compete.
